Lessons from Auschwitz - Video Now Online

27 April 2009

by Victoria Tarbox L6

Recently Abbi Allen and I were selected to represent the school in the Lessons from Auschwitz Project along with many other local students, including two from Bedford School.

Lessons from Auschwitz is a national project for sixth formers run by the Holocaust Trust and funded by the government.

The project includes two seminars in Reading and then a one day trip to Poland to visit the Auschwitz camps.Auschwitz

At the first seminar we had discussed what to expect, however in reality nothing could prepare us for what we saw. The experience was an incredibly valuable one that opened our eyes to the atrocities of the Holocaust.

During the evening at the second camp, we had a memorial service where a Rabbi spoke. This comment was one that particularly affected us:

"Often we give a minutes silence for someone who has sadly passed away.  If we were to give a minute's silence to each individual that died in just Auschwitz alone we would be stood here for four years."

We hope to use the lessons we have learnt during the project to educate future generations to stop anything like this happening again.

You can see a video clip of the trip on You Tube.
