French Exchange

05 May 2009

On 16 April, the English participants gathered at Bedford Station to welcome their French partners who had given them all a great time during our visit to Paris in February.  Now everyone got to chat in English!

Over the last few days of the Easter holidays, the English families enjoyed showing their visitors around the area, with different families arranging different trips.

Some spent a day in London or Cambridge, while others planned activities closer to home.  Some girls took their partners to see the Coldstream Guards Beating the Retreat at Bedford Rugby Ground.  The last evening of the holidays was party time.

For the first day and a half of this term, the French participants came to school with their English partners.  They were struck by certain aspects of BHSG, which is significantly bigger and older than the Ecole Decroly.  There the pupils have no uniform and call their teachers by their first names.

Unsurprisingly, the two French boys in the group found the experience of being in a girls' school a bit daunting!

From all reports, it seems the participants of both nationalities have enjoyed the experience of finding out about another culture at first hand, and have certainly improved their language skills.

We are looking forward to another successful French exchange in 2009-2010
