Joint concert at Bedford School - Handel's Samson
On Sunday, 15 March, Chapel Choir joined the Chamber Choir of DAHS, the boys' choir of Bedford Prep School and Bedford School Choral Society for a large and impressive performance of Handel's Oratorio Samson.
The choral groups were supported by the Phoenix Orchestra and a line up of eminent soloists including the soprano Catherine Bott and the countertenor James Bowman.
The text of the oratorio, based on Milton's Samson Agonistes is full of drama and deals with a variety of events leading up to Samson's self-inflicted, but triumphant, death.
This performance marked the 250th anniversary of the composer's death.
A huge amount of preparation went into this performance, both separately and in joint rehearsals. The end product was well worth the effort and the experience enjoyed by all performers and audience was truly memorable.
Mr Andrew Morris, who conducted the large resources, is to be congratulated on this achievement.
