Enrichment
Sixth Form Enrichment Curriculum
All students take part in PSHE lessons and they all have an opportunity to participate in Sport and Recreation and ICT workshops. A Level students have a range of Group Five Activities to choose from, with Citizenship and Women's Health being compulsory components. IB students participate in the Creativity, Action and Service and Theory of Knowledge programmes. Some Theory of Knowledge lectures and seminars are held after school and any student may attend.
PSHE and Careers
All Sixth Form students have weekly PSHE and Careers lessons. There are Career Education sessions on application to Universities and other post-18 choices, CV writing, Interviews, Work Experience and Study Skills. Individual Academic Progress Monitoring and Pastoral Support Interviews take place regularly. Students wishing to apply for Oxford and Cambridge are given supplementary advice and the Oxbridge Seminar Group meets weekly during the Autumn Term in Upper Sixth.
Sport and Recreation
A variety of sports are played to a high standard in the Sixth Form. Bedford High is one of the top schools in the country for Rowing and students have been selected to represent England and Great Britain. A wide variety of activities are available to choose from. These currently include Team Hockey, Lacrosse and Netball in the Autumn Term, or Rowing, Swimming, Badminton, Aerobics or Fitness Work. In the Summer, Rowing, Team Tennis, Athletics, Rounders, Cricket, Sailing, Windsurfing, Fitness Training and Golf are available. Some courses may incur a small charge.
Sixth Formers may also help with Junior School games and clubs, which both the Juniors and Sixth Form greatly enjoy.
ICT
Superb ICT facilities are available for students. All students have their own High School email address and are encouraged to use the Intranet and Internet. Workshops are held to improve skills using packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop and Acrobat.
Group Five Activities
In addition to the compulsory elements, students may choose up to another three activities including participation in the Engineering Education Scheme, Young Enterprise, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, ICT Workshops, IELTS (the International English Language Testing System) tuition and Theory of Knowledge seminars.
Sixth Form Extracurricular Opportunities
There is a huge variety of extracurricular clubs, societies and activities available for Sixth Form students. Students are encouraged to set up their own activity if they wish to do so, and as a result the activities may change from year to year. The download on the right gives full details of the activities and when they are currently running.
Dance classes in Ballet, Tap and Contemporary/Jazz Dance, Speech and Drama lessons and Instrumental lessons for a wide variety of instruments can be arranged for an additional charge - please ask the Dance, Drama or Music Department for details if you are interested.
