Junior School Newsletter June 2009

Dear Parents

I cannot believe we are only a couple of weeks away from the end of the summer term and the end of yet another school year.  There is so much still to enjoy before we break for the holidays and I hope to welcome you to these events.

All of our residential trips have now taken place with Upper 2 having just returned from Caythorpe Court, Lincolnshire. Lower 2 are just about to go on their team challenge day with ‘World Challenge' on Friday;  and in May, Form 1 went to Burwell and Lower 3 went to North Devon for their residential weekends. I would like to thank all the staff who organise, lead and accompany these trips. An enormous amount of time is spent in making the arrangements to ensure all the trips run smoothly; all eventualities have been considered and most importantly, that everyone has a great time. Lifelong memories come from these trips and without the support of the staff they would not take place - so many, many grateful thanks

This week is the Lower 3 production, ‘Bugsy Malone', the musical written by Alan Parker. Our talented Creative Arts teaching team, Mrs Parker, Mrs Silous and Mrs Winter have been busy working on the annual production - an event we all look forward to at this time of year.  It has become as traditional as Wimbledon and strawberries and cream!

The girls in the Junior School saw the show on Tuesday 16 June, when Lower 3 will have two performances.  We also welcomed children from local schools to watch one of the performances.

We also welcomed all the girls who will be joining the Junior school in September.  Everyone in Form 1, Lower 2 and Upper 2 spent the day in their new class on Tuesday.  The girls in Lower 3 will be spent the day in the Senior School on Thursday 18 June. They will have the opportunity of joining the current Upper 3s for joint activities during the day and meet some members of the Senior School staff.

Our annual Open House events have taken place during the past two weeks. Many parents were able to join their daughters for a range of activities throughout the school. We hope you enjoyed your afternoon in school and taking part in some of the lessons.

Sports Day will be held on Wednesday 24 June (weather dependent!), with a reserve date of Friday 26 June.

On Thursday 25 June, there is the annual Junior School Concert to look forward to.  I know many of you have already applied for your tickets and most of you should have received them. Tickets are limited, so if you have not already returned your completed slips, please do as soon as possible to ensure your seats are reserved for what is a really splendid evening of musical talent from the Junior Choirs, singers and instrumentalists.

The final event of the year, as always, is our Prize Giving and Celebration Service to be held at 2.00 pm on Thursday 2 July.  The service takes place in the Senior School Hall and is the culmination of the year's work.

Please note that the Junior School will finish for the end of term after the Service on the 2 July. The girls are not required or expected to come in to school on Friday 3 July.

We are looking forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to the events above.

With my best wishes
Mrs Corinne Royden
