Cambridge Union Debating Competition
On the evening of Thursday 3rd December the High School hosted a first round of the prestigious Cambridge Union Debating Competition.
24 teams from 12 local schools came to debate, from which 6 were chosen to go through to the next round. Among those 6 were the team of Masha Cherezova and Linda Tieu from our U6 and we congratulate them heartily, and also congratulate Maryam Saeed and Jenny Garafalo from the L6 who gallantly stepped in to replace U6 girls rather at the last minute and who gave spirited speeches.
Six classrooms were commandeered and a buffet was laid on in the Bay. Judges - students at Cambridge - came, amongst whom was our 'own' Frankie Hill. It was wonderful to see a former debating star now a judge, though probably slightly tricky for her. She didn't judge any of the debates involving High School girls, needless to say.
It was an energetic and exhilarating evening and I am most grateful to all who took part or came to support the girls. Ros Miller did a particularly sterling job in helping to settle guest teams.
