The ability to raise money for charity has always been an asset to the school, and this year's charity events have been no exception.

From talents shows to cake sales, we have raised money in a variety of ways.

On Thursday, 18 June, for the first time in many years we held a charity afternoon within school hours, which allowed all of the senior school to get involved in one way or another.

From 2.30pm, lessons were suspended and the playground was alive with everyone raising money together for St John's Hospice and Keech Cottage Hospice in Bedfordshire; both hospices help families of people with terminal illnesses.

The teachers made an entrance and willingly allowed themselves to be soaked as the girls paid good money to throw wet sponges at them. Mr Wright won the prize for best costume when he came out sporting a full wetsuit and snorkel.

Mr Owen started a water fight when he broke the rules and threw the sponges back at the girls, only to be rewarded with a bucket of water over his head for his troubles, and Mrs Rogers won the prize for wettest T-shirt. Mr Burden and Mrs O'Cleirigh were also wet through at the end of the afternoon.

The afternoon culminated with a play performed by the Lower Sixth. "Bedford High in 30 minutes" will definitely be remembered by all who attended as one of the funniest plays performed by High School girls. The play told the story of the teachers and the situations which must arise in the staff room. All the girls performing were wonderful and everyone in the hall had a smile on their faces at the end.

Many thanks to Senorita Galvez and to everyone who helped or ran a stall. Over £300 was raised and the afternoon was a great success!
