Hellcats on Top Form
Nine girls from the Bedford High Hellcats Judo squad made the journey to Sittingbourne to take on the best from the south of the country. All the girls fought their hearts out with some fantastic results.
First up was the smallest of the squad Georgia Staroscik. This was her first time in the girls under 28kg category and she struggled with the bigger girls strength and weigh advantage. Even though she was making good scoring throws, she was being beaten in the ground work and having gained one win, eventually finished 7th form 9 entries.
Three girls then found themselves in the girls under 32kg category. All three gave a display of great skill and determination in a very competitive group eventually finishing with a podium lock out. Gold went to Katie Parrish with Aziza Farhoud coming a very close second and Emily Fields taking the Bronze medal.
Next up was Antonia Illingworth in the girls under 38kg group. Antonia had to work hard and was extremely pleased with her Gold medal.
In the under 48kg group Christine Tavengwa very nearly pulled off the shock of the day by getting a big score against hot favourite Elora Parocki with a superb counter to Elora's signature throw. Elora then regained control of the fight eventually holding down Christine for the win. Elora finished up with the Hellcats third gold medal of the day while Christine ended up with a well earned Bronze medal.
Phoebie Dolan has not entered a competition for over a year so we did not expect too much from her. How wrong can you be? Pulling out all the stops in the girls under 53kg section she stormed to a Silver medal with a gritty performance against some seriously good opponents.
Last up was Chung Man. Chung may be small but she has some great skills which secured her a Silver medal from the girls 12 to 15 years under 54kg class even though she only weighs 40kg herself.
This was indeed a great day out for the Hellcats with 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals weighing them down on the return journey.
