Lacrosse Champions
On Saturday, our 1st Senior Lacrosse team travelled to Berkhamsted Collegiate School for the annual Hertfordshire invitational tournament.
Bedford High started the competition with a 7 - 0 win against Norwich High School following this with a 9 - 0 win against Princess Helena College.
In the third match St George's Harpenden provided much stiffer opposition and Bedford found themselves under pressure. With a goal disallowed in the final minutes of the match Bedford came out with a disappointing 2 - 1 loss.
Determined to perform to their true potential all the squad lifted their game. From that moment on superior fitness and stick skills showed with Bedford High beating St Albans to secure a place in the semi finals.
Haberdashers proved worthy semi final opponents but Bedford High's strength throughout the pitch and some ‘mighty' saves from goal keeper Emma McQueen which prevented Haberdashers converting some slick attack moves finished in a 2 - 1 win for Bedford High and a place in the final against Berkhamsted
On home soil with huge numbers of supporters Berkhamsted started in style scoring in the opening 10 seconds. Bedford High's team, captained by Olivia Jensen, kept their nerve however and with seconds to go to the final whistle Bedford were leading 3 - 2. In an extraordinary goal against the run of play in the dying seconds of the match Berkhamsted equalised and in the traditions of the tournament the title and trophy were shared.
