General Information
The school curriculum aims:
To provide opportunities for each pupil to learn and achieve
To promote the pupil's spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development and prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life
The curriculum should enable each and every individual to respond positively to opportunities, challenges and responsibilities, to manage risk and to cope with change. It should provide each pupil for the next steps in their education and equip them to make informed choices at school and throughout their lives.
Homework / Prep
Homework is set regularly for the girls and is seen as an important part of the learning process. Each year places different expectations upon your daughter so that as she progresses through the school she learns to take responsibility for her own learning. By completing homework, your daughter will also learn to manage her own time in which she has to complete the activity/task.
In Lower 3 / Year 6, your daughter is expected to read her current reading book or other suitable reading matter and to learn and revise her multiplication tables or practise probes every night. Your daughter is now in the upper part of the Junior School and formal homework is now set in the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. She will also receive homework in History and Geography. Homework may also be set in the Modern Foreign Language (MFL) that she is learning during that particular term. Each night your daughter will bring home the activities/tasks which should be completed in 45 minutes.
Assessments
During the year, your daughter will complete assessments in English, Mathematics and Science so that her progress is carefully monitored throughout her time in the school.
Early in the Spring Term, the girls in Lower 3 (Year 6) are given the opportunity to sit the Entrance Examinations for entry into the Senior School. A scholarship or bursary may be awarded depending upon academic performance in the examinations. In the Summer term, all girls in the school complete End of Year Exams. These usually take place during the week before the May half term. In Lower 3 (Year 6) the exams will be in English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History and Religious Studies.
