On a cold but bright Wednesday afternoon, the BGS cross-country team took to the fast undulating trails of the Bedfordshire County Cross Country in Ampthill. This cross-country course was a great test with changing surfaces, gradients and turns, a very different surface to the mud bath of the previous round.

The Years 6 and 7 girls took to the line second for the County Championships. All three girls ran a good quick race starting as a pack and then working their way through the field with Gabriela Woodroffe-Gomez (Year 7) finishing in 8th place, Rachel Forbes-Laird 15th and Izzy Jackson 16th. A fantastic team result.

Next, it was time for the Junior race (Years 8 and 9) and after seeing the impressive performances of the Years 6 and 7 girls they ran a very similar race plan. Both selected girls bided their time and then running hard up the last hill towards the finish passing many competitors. Ruby Adams finished in 21st and Sophie Forbes-Laird finished in 9th place, which is an impressive performance but puts her on the reserve list for running for Bedfordshire at the National Schools Cross Country Championships. Both girls need to be commended considering they are both in year 8 and therefore have another year at this.

The final event for the BGS girls was the Senior (Sixth Form) and Intermediate (Year 10 and 11) race. From the previous round BGS qualified 5 and 9 girls respectfully however such is the opportunities and standard of the girls meant that had to make tough decisions not to compete. The girls who stepped on to the start line all proved themselves worthy of qualifying for this round with Marisa Mistry finishing 12th and Holly Smith 15th in the Intermediate race putting themselves into the reserve group for the county team.  In the Senior race Bronwyn Tagg had an excellent race showing good strength blitzing through to a 5th place finish and qualifying for the for English School Cross Country. Clodagh had a brilliant race and never stopped smiling the entire way around the course. When she finished clutching her 6th place finish and county qualifying position, she asked if she could have a photo to be reminded of her last school cross-country race.
