Junior School MFL

Throughout the Spring Term, our Year 5 girls have enjoyed a taste of ‘Real Spain’ in their Unit of Enquiry, Grand Designs. The girls have been learning about continents, countries and cities of the world, identifying famous wonders and landmarks in these cities.

On Wednesday 7th February, the girls enjoyed a tapas culinary experience hosted by Canela Fina, a Spanish cultural education group. To enhance the teaching of Spanish language and culture, the girls enjoyed a real hands on experience creating delicious tapas dishes from Mollete (bread) with tomato and ham and Gazpacho. We can all agree the real highlight of the workshop was piping the Lenguas de gato (thin butter cookies).  The facilitators were excellent and engaged with each pupil, explaining the theory behind the delicious dishes. After the half term break the girls further immersed themselves in Spanish culture and put on their dancing shoes and colourful outfits ready for a day of salsa dancing. Hosted by Canela Fina, the girls discovered that salsa originated from Cuba but also represents a mix of Latin musical genres. All the pupils had a wonderful time, learning the various steps of salsa, with staff getting involved too!

The Salsa teaching really enriched our Spanish day and the pupils got to learn more about the culture and language. A fun day was certainly had by all, with thanks to Canela Fina.
