Our athletes have produced stellar individual and team performances, including placing 5th at the English Schools Athletics Association (ESAA) Track and Field Cup Final and a gold medal for Sophie Forbes-Laird (Year 9) at the Eastern Regional Athletics Championships.

Last weekend, the Junior Team (Years 8 and 9) athletes produced magnificent performances under the sparkling blue sky at the ESSA Track and Field Cup Final. Held at the Chelmsford Sport & Athletic Centre, this was only the second time BGS has qualified in this prestigious competition.

Competing against the top 13 schools across the country, the athletes tackled an array of track and field events ranging from long and high jump, shot, javelin to sprint and middle distance events. Our athletes rose to the occasion across the days, they performed admirably, making 420 points, which placed them 5th overall.

Meanwhile, talented track runner Sophie Forbes-Laird has also been busy also competing for her club, Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers. On Saturday 29th June, Sophie claimed a gold medal in the U15 300m at the Eastern Regional Athletics Championships. She has also part of her club 4x100 relay team, who will be competing in the Mueller Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium Sunday 21st July.

Mrs Howlett (Deputy Head of PE) said: “It has been lovely to see the girls develop over the year and have the chance to showcase their talents on the bigger scene. The girls’ success must be credited to their consistent application to both training and competitions.”
