Mrs Whomsley (Head of Year 5)

Year 5 benefitted from Mrs Redford’s (Head of Speech and Drama) expertise on Tuesday with a full day’s Speech and Drama workshop, as they explored performance and poetry. The girls enjoyed exploring different voice techniques and collaborating to create small group pieces. This work launched a challenge to the girls set by the Year 5 teachers for them to create a class performance of a poem, which will be shown to the Year 3 girls next Friday.

As part of their challenge, the girls will have work as a class to direct and choreograph their pieces. Whilst their teachers will be there to support them, they are being encouraged to be as independent as possible with these performances.

Mrs Redford will be re-visiting the girls next Thursday for their dress rehearsal and to offer further advice on how to refine their pieces for their final performances. The work follows a term’s Unit of Inquiry exploring performance and poetry.
