Miss Hooker (PE Teacher)

Monday saw the return of the Years 7/8 and 9/10 District Cup Athletics at the Bedford International Athletic Stadium. It’s been two years since this event, and many others, have been held. Our athletes have missed the opportunities to develop and compete. It was genuinely brilliant, despite the weather, to be back.

The District Cup is an unusual athletics event that requires every of the 12 athletes to do two events which can be a combination of a track or field or relay. It meant a number of our athletes were involved in extra practices in the lead up in order to prepare for their events. The results for every event are converted into points to calculate the winners.

The events were hotly contested by all the schools in the region and we had some fantastic results with most of our runners getting personal bests. Special mention goes to Danae Karavaggelis (Year 9), who beat her high jump PB with 1m 41, and Charlotte Proctor and Jess Wathen who both ran great 200m races.

The final results were:

Year 9/10 – 4th place with 278 points

Year 7/8 team – 3rd place with 282 points.

It was a great day of athletics and a great start to our season. We’re all looking forward to seeing what more we can achieve going forward.
