We are delighted to announce that future Gaelic football star, Ava Cunningham (Year 9), lifted the U13 cup and shield at the All-Britain Feile in Edinburgh this past weekend.

Representing the county for the Glo-Herts team, where girls are selected from various clubs residing in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, Ava’s team won all their games and then went on to beat Scotland in the final and win the U13 cup.

Ava previously competed with her club the Claddagh Gaels in the All British Championships and they reached the semi-finals.

Ava who only started playing Gaelic Football in 2021 said: “I started playing Gaelic Football with Claddagh Gaels during the summer of 2021 when I was 11, and I fell in love with it in the first session! I had my first game in September of 2021. Since then I have travelled abroad to Ireland with the U15 Glo-Herts and Scotland with the U13 Glo-Herts teams.

“This past weekend I competed for the U13s in the All-Britain Feile. We reached the finals by beating each team in the group stages. The final was played in pouring rain but that just made the celebrations at the end even more memorable when we beat Scotland. We also finished the season competing in a large tournament where our club the Claddagh Gaels competed against many Gaelic football clubs across Britain. Our team qualified for the cup (highest stage) but unfortunately got knocked out in the semi-finals against an amazing team from Coventry!”

Many congratulations, Ava! We look forward to following your promising Gaelic football career.
