Sixth Form Swimming

We are extremely proud to announce that Lucy Young (Lower Sixth), has been selected to represent the East Team at the prestigious ESSA National Inter-Division Swimming Championships.

Held at the Alan Higgs Centre in Coventry on 11th and 12th March, this national competition will see the top swimmers from each region of the country vying for top podium places. Lucy has been selected to represent the East of England in the Senior Girls Age Group (Years 11, 12 and 13).

Lucy reflected on her selection: “Getting selected for the East Team for the ESSA National Inter-division is a great opportunity that I’m very excited to experience, along with other students and swimmers in the East of England. The gala should be a great event to mix with swimmers from across the different regions in the country, and test myself against some of the country’s best swimmers. I am looking forward to seeing how I perform going into the national qualifying window, in addition to seeing how my hard work in training is paying off.”

The Modernian swimming club member has enjoyed success in the pool over the past year. In August, 2022 Lucy finished placed 3rd in her age group (17 years) for the 1500m freestyle at the Swim England National Championships in Sheffield. She is currently ranked in the top 3 in the East of England in several freestyle events.

Lucy combines her A Level studies with her demanding swimming programme through the PE departments Athlete Support Programme. Introduced in November 2022, the programme is designed to help athletes achieve their full sporting potential whilst ensuring that academic success is maximised.

We look forward to following Lucy’s performances at this gala with eager anticipation!
