Last weekend (19th-21st May), students from the Junior and Senior School produced outstanding Speech and Drama performances at the Northampton Festival of Performing Arts.

Held at the Old Savoy Home of The Deco Theatre, BGS entered various talents ranging from verse speaking to dramatic solo.

First established in 1977, the festival provides a welcome platform for participants to perform in front of an encouraging audience and receive constructive, professional adjudication which will promote further development. The range of classes provides opportunities for people of all ages and standards.

After captivating the adjudicators with her remarkable talent during the competition, Manpriya Sira (Year 8) was invited to the prestigious Gala evening on Wednesday. Amidst the elegant ambiance, she delivered a mesmerising performance titled The Newcomer by Brian Patten, a poignant piece about the destruction of our planet due to pollution and climate change.

Mrs Redford (Head of Speech and Drama) said: “It was a tremendous opportunity to perform at the Northampton Festival and compete against very talented and outstanding young people from the county. It was challenging, and the students had to work very hard to produce exceptional pieces of work and receive comments from the acclaimed adjudicator, Marcia Carr. The standard of work from every performer was impressive and it was rewarding to watch them rise to a level of performance that resulted in their deserved successes. Congratulations to all the students for their outstanding accomplishments.”
