After overcoming the challenges of injuries in the previous season, we are incredibly proud of talented athlete, Etienne Maughan (Upper Sixth), who was victorious in the 100m hurdles at the National Athletics League (NAL) competition on Sunday 11th June 2023 at the Bedford International Athletics Stadium.

Representing Bedford and County AC, Etienne shone at the meet as she competed against athletes from renowned clubs such as Belgrave Harriers, Bristol and West, Cardiff, The City of Liverpool, and The City of Portsmouth. It is an extraordinary feat considering that Etienne surpassed athletes who were significantly older than her.

Etienne reflected: “I was really pleased to run a personal best at the National Athletics League meet, especially after a period of A Level exams and trying to get readjusted to running 100m hurdles after being injured last season. Whilst my focus was on exams, it was helpful to have training as something else to put my energy into and concentrate on.

“I was happy to see the training I was able to do during this time paying off. I am looking forward to the English Schools’ Athletics Championships at the end of the month and see what I am able to do amongst some of the best hurdlers in the country at Under 19. As the season continues, I hope to keep making progress, improve my PB and continue to enjoy both the training process and competition environment!”

Etienne's achievement serves as a remarkable example of determination and excellence in athletics.
