Whole School Rowing

By Mrs Reeves (Director of Rowing)

On Sunday 8th October, 50 rowers competed on home water at Bedford Autumn Head. This event, hosted by local club Bedford Rowing Club, gives all of our rowers the opportunity to compete on a course they know very well in multiple boat types across the day.

With weather that made us feel as though we were still in the summer regatta season, 34 of our 50 rowers competed in single sculls, some for the very first time – and we didn’t have a single capsize! Many of our rowers from Years 10 to Upper Sixth also raced the course multiple times, competing in two or three categories across the day. A long but very successful day of racing for the boat club.

BGS entered across 10 racing categories, finishing in the top three in 9 of these.

-          WJ16 1x: 2nd Rosemary McGregor, 6th Zena Breed – from 40 entries

-          WJ17 1x: 1st and 2nd place – Ellie Mullan and Martha Ibbott

-          WJ18 1x: 3rd and 4th place – Elyse Vickers and Lottie Giles

-          WJ16 2x: 2nd place – Bella Moretto and Eva Blake

-          WJ18 2x 2nd, 3rd & 4th place – Lottie Giles/Ellie Mullan, Millie Partridge/Evie Hayward, Emily Dyall/Emily Pinkney

-          WJ15 4x+ 3rd place

-          Band 1 Women’s 4+ - 1st place

-          Band 1 Women’s 4+ - 2nd place

-          Band 2 Women’s 4+ - 1st place-

A huge well done to everybody who raced on Sunday, and a big thank you to the Friends of BGS Boat Club for their refreshments and support throughout the day. A fantastic start to the new season for rowing at BGS. We now look forward to our October half term training and more racing in the build up to Christmas!
