By Mr Stratton (Director of Drama and Dance)

From Wednesday 22nd November to November 25th 2023, students from Years 11 - Upper Sixth performed Daisy Pulls It Off by Denise Deegan. The production, which ran across four performances and boasted two casts, gave the opportunity for students to take on performance and production roles and the final outcome was nothing short of exceptional. The students were wonderfully supported by healthy audience attendance and their feedback was glowing. Read below for some highlights:

“Superb! It was thoroughly uplifting watching the cast having fun while also doing something they love.”

“'The play was utterly amazing! I laughed and I cried and was taken away by the extremely professional acting by the pupils. Keep up the good work girls, everyone came out of the theatre saying just how incredible the play was and I couldn’t agree more! I especially loved the humorous moments and that the girls were always embodying their characters.”

“Fantastic performance. Very enjoyable production. Well done to all involved, on and off stage. Brilliant job.”

Behind the scenes, BGS collaborated with local FE provider, Bedford College. Students from the college's BTEC Production Arts course constructed the fantastic set - the pictures really don't do it justice! It was wonderful to also welcome those students into the dress rehearsal of Daisy Pulls It Off and to give an opportunity to develop community amongst our institutions.

Drama, Theatre and Dance is thriving at BGS, with brilliant academic results and a strong reputation for both cocurricular productions and LAMDA/dance exam results. Our next production, High School Musical, will be performed in March by students in Years 9 and 10 and will also feature a student band supported by staff from our brilliant music department.
