Music Tech at Air Studios by Alice Wright
Wednesday saw a very exciting trip for the Music Technology students in the sixth form, as they got the amazing opportunity to go to Air Studios by kind invitation of David Arnold, Grammy Award winning composer of film soundtracks including ‘Quantum of Solace', 'Casino Royale', ‘Hot Fuzz', and ‘Zoolander'.
David, who has also worked with Shirley Bassey, Bjork, and many other leading musicians, gave us an inside look at the running of Air Studios. We were lucky enough to see how a real studio operates and how recording and mastering in the industry takes place.
Inside the main studio at Air we saw the preparation for an orchestral session that was due to take place in the afternoon and saw how a session is run in a professional studio. It was very interesting to see and talk to the recording engineers to see what kind of qualities you need to work in the industry.
After spending time at Air we became proper tourists and had a good walk over the iconic zebra crossing at Abbey Road, recreating the classic Beatles album cover! We then piled back into the cars after battling with a spider on the door of the school's Galaxy, exhausted and warm, but happy after an amazing day.
Thank you to Mr Leitner, Mrs Leitner, Mr Arnold, and David Arnold for such an informative and educational trip.
