Visits to Cambridge, Spring 2009
This month, two age groups have visited Cambridge University.
In the first week of the holiday, some U3 and L4 became 17 of the 800 young people who participated in Cambridge's 800 year celebrations.
They wrote "letters to the future", to be opened, maybe by their descendents, in a hundred years time, and to be stored in the University Library.
These letters, written in the magnificent Hall of Corpus Christi College, were sealed up and each girl completed a certificate with her name and the number of her letter.
The letters remained behind; the certificates went with them. What will the future think of our letters, encapsulating the lifestyles and thoughts of our times as recorded by these girls?
L6 girls who are interested in applying to the University had an equally thrilling day when they visited two Colleges, Trinity and Newnham last week.
At the former, old girl, Ellie Reeds, laid on a marvellous programme for us where the girls met current students to discuss all aspects of the application process; they lunched in the great Hall with students and Fellows. Then, Ellie gave us a tour of the College which looked resplendent in the spring sunshine.
On arrival at Newnham, not as central as Trinity but adjacent to the Arts Faculty, the girls had a most useful talk by the Admissions Tutor and a question and answer session.
Another tour and discussions with students later, they fell into the minibus pretty tired out but with a great deal to think about and much to inspire them.
