International Student Forum (ISF)

18 November 2009

What is the International Student Forum

As many students from different nations are studying at our school, we would like to introduce different cultures and events from these countries to the local students. Different activities organised will also help to build up closer relationships between local and international students.

What do we do?

We have three committees under ISF, they are: Publicity, Social and Welfare Committee. These three committees spread out all the works so the ISF can organise activities in a more efficient way.

  • The Publicity Committee

Its committee members publish articles on the school newsletter to update the ISF news for the students and parents. Also, they will put information on the ISF notice board to inform the students on our forum.

  • The Social Committee

Its committee members organise the school activities such as house challenge to get everyone involve. Sometimes they will also give out information in the school assemblies.

  • The Welfare committee

As there are boarding houses for our international students, the members of this committee offer help to the boarders in lower years or new girls. They also organise boarding activities such as Chinese New Year meal so boarders will learn from different cultures of various countries.

How do we run ISF?

The whole forum has elected a head and deputy head. There is also a leader in each separate committee. Regular meetings are held between committees and the whole forum to come up with new ideas for ISF. Funding for the ISF is gathered through fund raising activities such as cake sales. The fund will be used by all committees, such as for buying presents for the winner of house challenge.

GCSE Results

Girls have once again achieved some truly excellent results in their GCSE examinations this summer. 29% of all results were at A* grade, 57% A*-A and 80% A*-B.

Carla Barberio, Rebecca Murray, Hannah Short and Surina Taneja all achieved 10A* grades, Tessa Forbes and Chloe Scott 9A* grades, Connie Fan, Yasmin Jamil and Frances Whittaker-Wood 8A* and Emily Myrtle, Lauren Roberts and Georgia Austin Greenall 7 A* grades.

Eighteen girls were sitting their examinations having spent, in most cases, only 3 years studying in English, and yet between them they amassed results which closely mirrored the overall percentages: 21% A*, 54% A*-A and 76% A*-B.

Although I am sad that our boarders are unable to progress to Bedford Girls' School for their Sixth Form studies, I am delighted that most of our very top achievers will be going on to take A level or IB courses there.

I wish every girl who left Bedford High School at the end of Upper 5 the very best of luck for their future studies.
