Yr 6 District Tournament

25 June 2010

On Wednesday 23rd June, the Year 6 rounders teams travelled to Beauchamp Middle School for the Year 6 district tournament. The A team had 2 teams in their section; Bedford Modern and Beauchamp.

The results were as follows;
vs. Beauchamp - Bhsg Won 10-5
vs. Bedford Modern - Bhsg Won 7½-6

They played fantastically in both games, with two solid wins to put them into the semi-finals against Dame Alice ‘B' team. The girls approached the semi final with great determination to bag another win, putting them into the finals against Dame Alice ‘A' team. The final was a truly ‘nail biting' match with the final score being tied on 6½-6½. The competition rules are that in the event of a draw the winner is determined by the most numbers of ‘outs' as a result Bedford High School for Girls were crowned tournament winners! A special mention should go to Octavia Cavill for some impressive catches in the field and excellent batting throughout the tournament. Well done Girls!

Squad: O. Cavill, E. Salmon, C. Kearney, K. Axford, E. Parocki, K. Parrish, E. Collett, L. Pettifar, R. Downing-Holmes

GCSE Results

Girls have once again achieved some truly excellent results in their GCSE examinations this summer. 29% of all results were at A* grade, 57% A*-A and 80% A*-B.

 Carla Barberio, Rebecca Murray, Hannah Short and Surina Taneja all achieved 10A* grades, Tessa Forbes and Chloe Scott 9A* grades, Connie Fan, Yasmin Jamil and Frances Whittaker-Wood 8A* and Emily Myrtle, Lauren Roberts and Georgia Austin Greenall 7 A* grades.

Eighteen girls were sitting their examinations having spent, in most cases, only 3 years studying in English, and yet between them they amassed results which closely mirrored the overall percentages: 21% A*, 54% A*-A and 76% A*-B.

Although I am sad that our boarders are unable to progress to Bedford Girls' School for their Sixth Form studies, I am delighted that most of our very top achievers will be going on to take A level or IB courses there.

I wish every girl who left Bedford High School at the end of Upper 5 the very best of luck for their future studies.
