Pastoral Support
At Bedford High School for Girls, your daughter will be supported by a pastoral team who work closely together to ensure her welfare. Primarily, her Form Tutor will play a significant role in monitoring her wellbeing, personal development and academic progress throughout her time with us. Each new girl, including those moving up from the Junior School, is assigned a ‘first friend': a volunteer who has been in the school for at least a year, and who ensures that your daughter is looked after and quickly feels at home.
Our Personal, Social and Health Education (PHSE) programme is carefully co-ordinated by an Assistant Head,
Mrs Gill Surtees, who works closely with the School Nurse, Head of Careers and Form Tutors to cover important life skill topics at the most relevant times to prepare your daughter effectively for society and its challenges. We aim to ensure that each girl grows into a confident and independent young woman by the time she leaves us.
Pupils' views and opinions are also important to us and each form is represented on the School Council which is organised by the Head Girls of the Junior and Senior schools. Their valuable contributions help to bring about positive changes which benefit the whole school.
