Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Practice Expedition

01 May 2009

Over the weekend of 25th & 26th April over 50 members of Lower 5 took part in their practice Bronze Expedition.

The girls walked on Saturday, camped overnight in tents at the Scout camp site in Bromham, cooked their own evening meal on stoves and then walked again on Sunday.

They had all carried out a lot of planning beforehand, and had to navigate themselves along their route whilst carrying all their own belongings.  D of E Bronze April 09

The girls all learnt from their experiences, not least map-reading, developing their skills with a compass, and perhaps most vitally resolving not to carry their rations in heavy tins next time!

We all enjoyed a great weekend with fantastic weather in which to enjoy the countryside and perfectly timed to see the woodlands full of bluebells - although Saturday night was a little cool for camping.

D of E Bronze April 2009  Together with many of the girls, I am looking forward to the final qualifying expedition later in the summer.

Finally a huge thank you to all the helpers, including the sixth form volunteers and especially to Mrs Ross for masterminding the whole weekend.
