Gifted and Talented Day
Creative writing, mandarin, tag rugby, sign language, drama, street dance and ultimate Frisbee were just a few of the varied activities on offer at the Gifted and Talented Day held on Wednesday 14th July. 218 students, aged 11 to 16, from Daubeney, Hastingsbury, Robert Bruce and The Grange schools were invited to the enrichment day, organized by the Kempston Education Trust (KET) and the Harpur Trust, and held jointly at Bedford School and Bedford High School for Girls. The Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service were also on hand to coach Tag Rugby.
Richard Fuller, MP, who welcomed the talented and gifted students, told us, "each of the young people today has inside them potential for themselves, the local community, and the wider world. The Kempston Education Trust Gifted and Talented Enrichment Day is a fantastic way for them to gain independence, to realize and fulfill their potential".
Teachers from Bedford School and Bedford High School for Girls, and eight girls from BSHG, all of whom are currently on the summer holidays, generously gave their time and expertise for free, as did the fire crew from the Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service.
Martin Fletcher, Head Teacher of Hastingsbury Business and Enterprise College said, "The whole Kempston Educational Trust Gifted and Talented Enrichment Day was an outstanding success. It was wonderful to see Kempston children and students from middle, upper and special schools participate in such an inclusive day long project. This Kempston Education Trust initiative created a wonderful opportunity for young people of Kempston to participate in a variety of exciting and dynamic activities. Also it was excellent to note that all involved were enabled and encouraged to develop and share their skills, talents and enthusiasm".
