Pinky Week by Claudia Sarno

13 November 2008

From 13 to 17 October Bedford High School for Girls was completely overtaken by Pinky Week; the first event of its kind, harebrained by our very own Mrs Galvez and the charities committee, to raise money for Breast Cancer Research UK.

Each school day of the week had a different event and theme, building up to the Friday where everyone participated in a pink-themed mufti day.

Every school year group worked together to make Pinky Week happen, from the events organised by Upper Three to the Sixth Form tombola. Lower Five and Lower Sixth even had a 'bake off', with both the year groups holding their own cake sales at the same time, with a view to who could sell the most - coincidentally, the Lower Sixth won! The Swimathon by Lower Four was hugely successful as well as being original - there's only so many cake sales one school can have in the space of five days!

The mufti day on the Friday saw most girls show up to school in a dazzling array of all things pink (the motif of the supported charity being a pink ribbon), although many girls were disappointed to see that some male members of staff had "forgotten" their something pink!

A huge thank you must be said to everyone involved, from the girls who participated in the sponsored silences, or whoever simply took the time to bake a cake for the cake sale. A record amount of money was raised, and it was wonderful to see that all the girls who participated enjoyed themselves immensely.
