Valentine Roses by Gurpreet Sahota
Once again it was the season of love.
This year Annabel Hill and I had the task of playing cupid, with the proceeds of the roses venture going to our chosen Sixth Form charity Refuge.
Although at the beginning of the week business was slow, it picked up with a flourish of sales on the last day, selling over seventy roses.
Friday the 12th was the moment of truth for us - would all the organisation, tag cutting and money collecting pay off?
However, we were unable to find the roses and tried not to panic. The mystery was soon solved as we discovered that they had been put in a very cold room for us, to prevent them from wilting. Phew we could breath a sigh of relief once more!
Many thanks must be given to Autumn Flowers for coming to deliver the roses to us, our counterparts at Bedford School and Bedford Modern for handing out our roses, and also our sixth-form valentines cherubs who helped us sell, sort out and surprise many girls in the school with roses.
Refuge operates a network of safe houses providing emergency accommodation for women and children when they are most in need. You can find out more about them on their website: http://refuge.org.uk
