The Annual Rotary Interviews
Half of the Lower 6th underwent mock interviews last Thursday evening. They were in competition for holiday jobs such as a leader in a children's summer holiday camp or as a waitress in a busy restaurant. Sadly the weather caused us to postpone the second evening, which we hope to reschedule in March.
We are very grateful to the interviewers who gave up an evening to read CVs and application letters and then question and feed back to the 6th formers.
The girls started out with a certain amount of fear and trepidation but were soon at their ease, using their interview skills, judgement and personality. One girl in a group of three took the interview seat while the others observed, making a mental note of strengths and weaknesses. After fifteen minutes the girls ‘rotated' to the next interviewer.
At a plenary session at the end of four interviews, they received praise not only for their performance but also for the preparation they had put into producing a CV and covering letters: skills learnt in Careers lessons earlier in the school year.
Our team of professionals comprised parents and friends who routinely interview people for jobs, so their opinions are worth having and our girls have learnt a great deal from the exercise.
