Young Scientist Prize
Very many congratulations to Lizzie Muller who popped back into school yesterday to share the news that when she took part in the European Union Contest for Young Scientists, she took first prize.
Her prize (Honorary Award) will take her forward to the European International Youth Science Seminar, but as it coincides with her trip to Antarctica (as a result of winning the Royal Society International Expedition Prize earlier this year), it has been postponed it for a year.
'From microcosm to magma oceans: a lunar meteorite perspective' is the title of her earth science project. She investigated the mineralogy of lunar meteorite MIL 0503. Based on the analysis of a thin section of the material using an electron microprobe, she was able to draw conclusions about the moon's origin and interpret the data in the context of global volcanism on the moon.
Lizzie is now looking forward to starting at St Peter's Oxford to study Earth Sciences and there is no doubt that she will continue to achieve more.
