Winner of Young Musician of the Year
Many congratulations to Mengxiao (Kiana) Yu in Lower 6 who won the Rotary Young Musician of the Year 2009 final as well as the School Festival Cup.
Mengxiao played the Mendelssohn Rondo Capriccioso which is a very advanced recital piece. The final was held at BMS, when she defeated some very strong opposition. Mengxiao won a cash prize and the opportunity to spend a day with the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Every year Bedford Castle Rotary Club, in conjunction with Bedford Rotary Club, organises and runs the "Young Musician of the Year" contest. This competition is open to under 18s who attend schools and colleges in Bedfordshire. There are three age groups and Mengxiao won the senior class.
On numerous past occasions young musicians from Bedford have gone forward to win National awards.
