Bedford High School for Girls U11 hockey team this week added to their County title by becoming Midlands Champions.
Bedford High School qualified for the Midlands Championship following their recent success in the Bedfordshire County Tournament where they beat, local opposition Bedford Modern and Dame Alice to win the County round.
In the Midlands Tournament the team won their group and progressed into the Semi Finals as a result of 4 straight wins beating:-
The Croft School, Warwickshire 2 - 0
Newcastle Under Lyme, Staffordshire 5 - 1
Shrewsbury Prep, Shropshire 2 -0
Beachborough School, Northants 1 - 0
The Semi Final was against the very competitive Worcester Royal Grammar School but a well taken goal from Kate Axford clinched a much deserved place in the final. Despite the journey to Cannock for this tournament we met local rivals Bedford Modern in the final.
It was an exciting match that saw a number of goal scoring chances that neither team could capitalise upon. It was therefore down to penalty strokes which the girls took with skill and composure beyond their years. At 5 - 4 to Bedford High, our Goal Keeper Ffion Lucas made a crucial save which crowned Bedford High School for Girls Midlands Champions.

This places the girls as one of the top 4 U11 School sides in the Country, which is an achievement that all of the team should be extremely proud of.
