The Three Peaks Challenge
On Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th of June, five girls from U4 set off to do the Three Peaks Challenge. The girls were Hannah Selvey, Robyn Armstrong, Amber Stewart, Harry Lusty, and Lydia Watt. Also joining them on this challenge were Robyn's parents, Kevan and Rachel Armstrong, her Aunts, Clare and Candy Cooper, and friend, Mark Gray.
After a nine hour journey to Scotland the team started Ben Nevis at 6:40pm. Despite the freezing temperatures at the top of Ben Nevis the girls were in good spirits and ready for the next mountain. Unfortunately Lydia injured her shoulder during the climb of Ben Nevis and was unable to finish it; however she was determined to complete the other two mountains. They then had a long drive of five and a half hours to Scafell Pike in England. They started their climb at 4:15am. Hannah said 'It was a long climb and a particularly hard one as we made the decision to take the harder route. This involved climbing a scramble scree which meant climbing up a 150 metre slope on your hands and knees. It was very scary but a great experience.' Finally they drove to Snowdon in Wales. Even though everyone was shattered they approached the last mountain with anticipation and confidence. Robyn said 'It was the last mountain and we were determined to give it our all.'
Robyn and Hannah completed the 3 Peaks challenge in 21hours 7minutes, and even managed to run the last 3 miles of Snowdon! Next down was Harry and Kevan in a time of 21hours 28minutes. Then Amber and Lydia in a time of 21hours 55minutes, who were followed shortly by Candy, Clare and Mark in 22hours 20minutes. Amber said at the end 'It was a once in a lifetime experience and I am so glad that we did it.'
The girls want to give a massive thank you to everybody who helped them raise money for SANDS and for all the great support everyone gave them before, during and after the challenge. Currently the girls are on £3500 but sponsorship is still coming in and hopefully with the help of Mark Gray's Business they should get well over £4000.
THANK YOU

GCSE Results
Girls have once again achieved some truly excellent results in their GCSE examinations this summer. 29% of all results were at A* grade, 57% A*-A and 80% A*-B.
Carla Barberio, Rebecca Murray, Hannah Short and Surina Taneja all achieved 10A* grades, Tessa Forbes and Chloe Scott 9A* grades, Connie Fan, Yasmin Jamil and Frances Whittaker-Wood 8A* and Emily Myrtle, Lauren Roberts and Georgia Austin Greenall 7 A* grades.
Eighteen girls were sitting their examinations having spent, in most cases, only 3 years studying in English, and yet between them they amassed results which closely mirrored the overall percentages: 21% A*, 54% A*-A and 76% A*-B.
Although I am sad that our boarders are unable to progress to Bedford Girls' School for their Sixth Form studies, I am delighted that most of our very top achievers will be going on to take A level or IB courses there.
I wish every girl who left Bedford High School at the end of Upper 5 the very best of luck for their future studies.
