For the last two months, the Pythagorean Society at Bedford School has invited the A Level and IB Diploma maths students to their lectures.

Last week, a group of students from Bedford Girls’ School attended a lecture on Differentiation with a Twist. The lecture, which was delivered by mathematician Mr Jerome Watson, looked at differentiation beyond A Level and IBD and linked between different topics such as Geometric Progression with the differentiation of Sine and Cosine graphs. Further to this, Mr Watson told us about how he took his interest in Mathematics from his father, who became a codebreaker in the Second World War at the age of 15 at Bletchley Park.

It was an extremely interesting experience and an incredible opportunity to further our understanding of maths. Next week, on Friday 26th November, Tobi Aspein (Lower Sixth) is leading a lecture on the topic Mathematics and AI. We are all looking forward to attending this and showing her our support.
